One of the many services WEL provides is temperature-controlled storage in state-of-the-art facilities. All are food grade AIB (American Institute of Baking) certified with combinations of cooler, freezer and dry storage.

With corporate headquarters in Wisconsin, it’s only natural that much of our storage business is cheese storage. Some of the top cheese producers in the country, including Kraft, Hilmar and Great Lakes Cheese, entrust the storage and even curing of their aged cheese products to WEL warehouse facilities.

The WEL Cheese Marketing and Brokerage Service is an outgrowth of our demonstrated Temperature-Control experience. It’s also a great example of how our entrepreneur foundation works for our customers. When we see a need, at WEL we make it happen.

The program is designed to assist both cheese producers and end users. We invested in aging rooms to provide a space for producers to both age and store their cheese, while grading experts test and taste the cheese to ensure that it meets the standards of both the producing company and the USDA.

WEL owns and operates 14 temperature-controlled warehousing facilities strategically located across the United States. It’s a nationwide footprint of 1.3 million square feet.  It’s made even stronger by our insistence upon only the best in temperature control out on the road. Our 830 temperature-controlled trailers are all late model trailers, on average only 4-years old.

The attention to detail and insistence upon updates and maintenance help to keep our damaged freight costs down to well below 1 percent of our annual revenue.

Topco Discovers the WEL Advantage

During any given week, Topco trusts WEL to handle nearly 1.5 million pounds of cooler products from cheese and whip cream to eggs and tortilla shells.

Superior quality assurance is a must with Topco products branded for Food Club, Shurfine®, Winn Dixie® and Valu Time.

In a well-tuned process, typically 55 trucks come in at various times. Dependent upon the brand and the type of order, product inventory may be completed or a host of other functions are put into play.

More often then not, the load is shipped LTL, otherwise 28 full truck loads are dispersed.

It works like clockwork. Topco and WEL are a great team with a collaborative eye for efficiency.
